Tangmere Airfield Nurseries

Tangmere Airfield Nurseries is one of Europe’s largest sweet pepper nurseries with more than 100 acres of state-of-the-art glasshouse facilities in the UK and Spain, producing in excess of 60 million sweet peppers a year, supplying to major supermarkets and wholesalers.
In 1989, Dirk Houweling established Tangmere Airfield Nurseries. This family business is based on the famous Battle of Britain airfield, originally home to RAF Tangmere. Today, the site has been revived and is now home to passionate pepper growers committed to producing fresh, quality peppers, whilst protecting the land and environment.
The Spanish site, acquired in 2001 supplements the British crop in winter, and ensures a continuous supply to customers 365 days a year. Further glasshouses in Somerset grow organic peppers to Soil Association organic standards.
A successful combination of innovative, biological growing methods using expertise developed over two decades enables the delivery of a dependable, high quality crop with full traceability from plant to table. Several varieties of pepper are grown, producing many colours and flavours to meet changing consumer needs.
Peppers are grown to LEAF Marque standards and following the principles of Integrated Farm Management. In May 2015, Tangmere Airfield Nurseries were awarded LEAF Demonstration Farm status in recognition of their commitment to sustainable farming.
Tangmere is an industry leader, maintaining its reputation through investment in cutting edge technology, commitment to environmental sustainability, food safety standards, and an extensive programme of research and development.
