A SPECIAL
Centenary Dinner
2025 saw the WSGA celebrate our centenary milestone. One hundred years is a long time, yet the collective memory of our members stretches across generations. Since our formation, the industry has weathered war, technological revolution, economic shocks and environmental change. Through it all, our members have adapted, endured and innovated with purpose. In 2025 we celebrate the same spirit of cooperation and ambition that once turned bare fields into glasshouses, and that now drives some of the most advanced horticultural businesses in the country.
Our mission as an association is clear; to be a strong, supportive voice for the future prosperity of our industry; to inspire and involve the next generation and to bring the horticulture community together, connecting our members for collaboration and innovation. This sense of community is vital to our sector and events such as our Centenary Dinner reinforce how important it is for our members to socialise and have fun together, whilst doubtless also talking shop!

HORTICULTURE INDUSTRY
Conference
The WSGA Autumn conference takes place every 2 – 3 years and plays a vital role in supporting and advancing the horticultural industry in the region. These gatherings provide a crucial platform for growers, researchers, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to exchange knowledge, discuss emerging trends, and address shared challenges such as sustainability, climate change, labour issues, and technological innovation.
By fostering collaboration and promoting best practices, the conferences help ensure the continued growth and competitiveness of West Sussex’s horticulture sector, which is a significant contributor to both the local and national economy. Additionally, they serve as a hub for networking and professional development, strengthening the community of growers and enhancing their ability to adapt to an ever-evolving agricultural landscape.
STAYING CONNECTED
Exec Meetings
Members of the WSGA meet six times a year for a two hour meeting, chaired by Richard Hopkins, at one of our member sites. These meetings are typically very well attended with often more than 20 members in the room and typically include guest speakers and overviews of the hosting site.
Members are encouraged to share both learnings and challenges to foster collaboration across the membership. New members are always welcome – whether growers or from related-industries.
